Hi everyone,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and good start to 2025!

With a new year upon us, I am excited to announce some updates to Alcove Photo Club. Since I started organizing these events in 2023, the community has grown so much and I’m hoping to increase the types of opportunities and programs offered. Here are some things to expect:

  1. Monthly Print Exchanges: Due to popular demand, the Print Exchange will now be hosted monthly at Alcove Centre for the Arts, with the exception of June, which will be hosted at Sparrow Art Space. This has been one of my personal favourite events and I'm excited to make it a more consistent program. I will bring a printer, so attendees can print on the spot!

  2. Monthly Downtown Photo Walks: Alcove Photo Club is partnering with Calgary Downtown Association and Downtown Core Neighbourhood Association to bring monthly photo walks to the downtown neighbourhood! In addition, we are adding a social meetup portion to the end of these photo walks, where we will convene at a restaurant/pub after the photo walk to share our photos and socialize over some drinks/snacks! The first one is scheduled for Sunday, February 16th. Registration is required as usual.

  3. Alcove Photo Club Exhibition (June 2025): We’ll be hosting the very first Alcove Photo Club Exhibition at Sparrow Art Space in June 2025, and submissions are now open! If you want to submit your work and be part of the selection process, make sure to get your Alcove Photo Club Membership for 2024/2025 (link below)!

Try Before You Buy at The Camera Store

If you’re looking to buy a camera or want try some different gear out, The Camera Store has a Try Before You Buy Program, which allows you to rent their gear out for free, before you decide to buy. Try out some new gear for our next event!

If you don’t own a camera yet, this is a great way to try it out!
