Hi everyone,

Happy April! Here are some updates from Alcove Photo Club:

  1. We’re hosting our first Photography Studio Social at One Big Jam’s creative studio, The Lab, and you’re invited! This is a chance to hang out with other photographers and explore the studio, try out different lighting setups (strobe and continuous), and shoot some portraits in a fun, low-pressure environment. Our friend Ray Muise will be walking us through the setups and offering tips throughout the evening - so don’t worry if you’re new to studio photography! There’ll be music, snacks, and lots of opportunities to connect and get inspired. It’s $30 to join — bring your camera and come vibe with the community.

  2. Alcove Photo Club Exhibition: Submissions are closed. Members will be able to vote soon to select the photos to be exhibited this June at Sparrow Art Space. Join us at our Opening Reception on June 6th (details coming soon).

  3. Monthly Downtown Photo Walks: In case you missed it.. Alcove Photo Club has partnered with Calgary Downtown Association and Downtown Core Neighbourhood Association to bring monthly photo walks to the downtown neighbourhood! In addition, we are adding a hangout portion to the end of these photo walks, where we will convene at a cafe after the photo walk to share our photos and socialize over some refreshments! Registration is required as usual.

April Event Schedule

*If an event is sold out, please do not show up unregistered. Send us an email to check and we’ll likely be able to have you join. We’d love to have everyone join, but we need to keep the group sizes manageable.
*A membership is not required to attend our events. Memberships are to participate in the Zine & Exhibition.

Try Before You Buy at The Camera Store

If you’re looking to buy a camera or want try some different gear out, The Camera Store has a Try Before You Buy Program, which allows you to rent their gear out for free, before you decide to buy. Try out some new gear for our next event!

If you don’t own a camera yet, this is a great way to try it out!
